Somewhere over the (mechanical) rainbow

The latest additions to Zenith’s Defy collection are two new Defy Extreme Chroma limited editions, which reimagine the brand’s DefyExtreme model –  a 1/100th of a second chronograph that was first launched in 2021 – in a rainbow palette.

The duo follow on from the 2022 Defy 21 Chroma in white ceramic and the 2023 Chroma II editions in white and black ceramic.

Made from either microblasted titanium or brushed and polished titanium, with black or white ceramic elements, each new model contains Zenith’s El Primero 9004 calibre, which houses two independent escapements: one beating at 5 Hz for timekeeping, the other at 50 Hz driving the chronograph hand that completes a full rotation every second, enabling readings to 1/100th of a second.

The 45mm watches, which feature Zenith’s signature dodecagonal bezel, are also water-resistant to 200 metres, and feature a spectrum of colours across their openworked dials, including on the the chronograph hours and minutes dials at 9 and 3 o’clock, the chronograph power reserve at 12 o’clock, and the small seconds at 6 o’clock. On the reverse you will find Zenith’s star-shaped rotor, rendered in blue for the black edition and electric green for the white edition.

Each Defy Extreme Chroma comes with three interchangeable straps: rubber, titanium bracelet, and Velcro.

Released in two limited editions of 100 pieces each, the new Defy Extreme Chroma models are available at Zenith boutiques, online, and through authorised retailers worldwide.
