Apple Watch Ultra 4 boosts health tracking and battery life
Apple has unveiled the Apple Watch Ultra 4, upgrading its flagship sports watch with a new Health Sensing System, S11 chip, longer battery life and a new daily readiness score.
New optical and electrical heart sensors measure heart rate every five seconds throughout the day, while heart rate variability (HRV) can now be measured up to 24 times more frequently. Apple claims the system delivers the most accurate heart-rate sensing of any wearable.
A new Readiness feature combines recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep data to generate a daily score from zero to 10, accompanied by recommendations ranging from Recover to Go For It.
Battery life has increased to up to 50 hours in normal use and 84 hours in Low Power Mode. A Max Extended Workout mode can track outdoor runs, walks and hikes for up to 45 hours while continuing to take GPS readings every second.

The Ultra 4 retains its 49mm titanium case and is available in natural and black finishes, with new colours introduced across Apple’s Trail Loop, Alpine Loop and Ocean Band collections.
Apple has also expanded its Hermès offering with the Apple Watch Hermès Ultra 4 in natural titanium. A new Grand H titanium band features a built-in extension mechanism allowing it to fit over a wetsuit, while the new Fathom and Wonder watch face presents four animated interpretations of the ocean, ranging from the surface to the seabed.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 is available to pre-order now and goes on sale on September 18, priced from £749 in the UK and $799 in the US.
