ATOWAK goes interstellar with fresh Mars Age offering
Mars Age is the name of ATOWAK’s latest release and has been described as the important next chapter in the brand’s offering.
At the heart of the release is the ATOWAK proprietary orbital time display system, a mechanical time-reading system built around the concept of celestial motion.
Three colourways form part of the new launch, with Origin Grey, Traverse White and Phantom Violet; the latter of which is a Special Edition, is individually numbered and limited to 102 pieces worldwide.
The Origin Grey and Traverse White models however are not individually numbered with the brand confirming that no colourway is intended for long-term continuous production or assigned a fixed production quantity.
Delving deeper into the display system, the watchmakers have deployed a rotating Mars disc which indicates the hours while a unique relay mechanism alternates between two-minute hands over a 180-degree scale.
A central M-shaped seconds hand completes the display, with the entire module driven by a planetary gear system that completes one revolution every 120 minutes.
Powering the watch is the AK-08BA self-developed modular movement, based on the Swiss Sellita SW200 automatic calibre. It beats at 28,800vph (4Hz) and offers a 38-hour power reserve.
The 40mm x 47.2mm case is 14.4mm thick and weighs in at a total of 67.5g, inclusive of the strap.
The Origin Grey and Phantom Violet feature forged carbon fibre cases, while Traverse White uses fibreglass construction.
All versions incorporate Grade 5 titanium inserts, a double-domed sapphire crystal with six layers of anti-reflective coating, 5 ATM water resistance and Super-LumiNova throughout the display.
A standout feature is the highly detailed 8mm titanium Mars hour disc, produced using precision laser melting to recreate the surface of Valles Marineris.
Elsewhere on the dial, miniature Earth and Moon elements continue the planetary theme, with the Moon crafted from hand-polished black jade.
As part of the appeal of the flagship Phantom Violet edition, ATOWAK has ensured that the production number references the length of a Martian solar day (Sol), which is approximately 102.7% of a day on earth.
The dial colours on the special edition are also inspired by NASA imagery of the blue-violet glow seen during Martian sunrise and sunset.
Each Mars Age is supplied on a hybrid nylon and leather strap with a quick-release titanium buckle, with an additional Italian leather strap included during the pre-order period.
Launching today, the standard editions are priced at $3,380, while the limited Phantom Violet edition retails for $3,980.
Standard edition deliveries are scheduled to begin in July 2026, with the limited edition also including exclusive presentation packaging, a commemorative plaque and Founding Member status for future ATOWAK releases.
