Ball Watch Company part of hattrick of world record attempts
Ball Watch Company has announced its role as the Official Watch Partner for The Outer Edge Polar Challenge (OEPC).
Starting two days ago on Iceland’s Vatnajökull ice cap and led by award-winning expedition leader and designer Charles Werb, the mission is utilising the Swoosh Snowsailer — a Red Dot Design Award-winning, 100% wind-powered vehicle — to attempt three Official Guinness World Records.
The first record is the greatest distance covered in 24 hours in a wind-powered vehicle (Subarctic); the second is the fastest 100 metres by a wind-powered vehicle (Subarctic); and the third is the longest adventure expedition live stream on YouTube (minimum 24 hours).
Throughout the expedition, Werb is wearing Ball’s Engineer Hydrocarbon EOD, a 42 mm titanium mechanical watch engineered to perform under extreme environmental stress.
Originally licensed by the US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, the chronometer-certified timepiece features custom movement oil rated for temperatures down to -45°C (-49°F), patented anti-shock technology capable of surviving a 10-metre free fall, 300m water resistance, and self-powered micro gas tubes for continuous visibility in complete darkness.
“OEPC is about testing performance where failure is real — not in controlled environments, but in the harshest conditions on the planet,” Werb said.
