Citizen collaborates with Paris watch customizer
Citizen has teamed up with Paris-based artistic provocateur ‘seconde/seconde/’ to release a pixel-art-inspired limited edition of its popular Tsuyosa automatic watch.
The collaboration reinterprets the Japanese word Tsuyosa (meaning “strength”) through the visuals of retro gaming and the standout feature is a pixelated katana minute hand that appears to the wearer to have physically sliced the dial’s indices in half.
Continuing the theme, the bracelet clasp features sword-slash marks, while the caseback bears the message: “Being smaller has never stopped Minutes from slicing Hours into pieces.”
The watch is limited to 3,600 units worldwide, which is a nod to the 3,600 seconds that the katana hand “slices” through to complete each single hour.
Artist Romaric André, the creative mind behind ‘seconde/seconde/,’ said of the partnership: “As a creative always trying to fuse opposites in order to create impactful contrast, it is such an exciting
venture to collaborate with a brand like Citizen.
“Just a French guy on one side. And a huge and historical Japanese brand on the other. The best collaborations are usually those that bring together parties that initially seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum.”
This striking timepiece is priced at $495 and comes in a custom-designed limited-edition box.
