Citizen shoots for the (blood red) moon
Citizen is introducing two limited edition watches from its Attesa collection in acknowledgement of the upcoming total lunar eclipse.
Visible across Japan on March 3 at 8.04pm, the eclipse will result in a blood red moon, which is the look that the new watches lean into.
The first of the two ‘Shades of Red’ models—the CC4077-71Z—is based on a flagship Citizen model equipped with the brand’s Cal.F950 Eco-Drive movement, while the other—the BY1005-73Z—is based on a model powered by the Cal.H874 movement, which contains ‘Luna Program,’ Citizen’s fully automatic analog moon phase function.
Boasting a striking wine-red dial, the CC4077-71Z pairs a moon motif with a mother-of-pearl foundation to create a multi-dimensional effect. The watch’s deep red sapphire bezel features silver city names vapor-deposited onto a dark red inner ring.
The BY1005-73Z achieves its aesthetic through a layered dial assembly. The moon-phase disc utilizes red metal electrodeposition for color precision, while the background features pearlescent star-field printing. By combining a raised-inkjet textured lower dial with metal elements on the upper layer, the watch offers a distinct sense of depth.
Launching this month, there will be 1,800 pieces of the CC4077-71Z worldwide, priced at $2,195 / £1,595, while there will be 2,200 of the BY1005-73Z at $1,125 / £995.
