Collector sues Richemont and Canadian jeweler for ‘lost’ watch
Both Richemont and Montreal-based jeweler Birks are being sued by a disgruntled collector, who claims that they lost his Roger Dubuis Excalibur Chronograph watch.
He says that he took the watch — which was worth CAN 80,000 (USD 59,000) — in for a service, but that he was offered a replacement that had been discontinued.
According to a civil claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court, plaintiff Kris G. left his 2010 Roger Dubuis Excalibur Chronograph at Birks’ West Hastings Street location in February 2025. The lawsuit claims the defendants acted as “bailees for reward” and breached their duty of care when the original watch went missing.
According to Business in Vancouver, G. reportedly agreed to release the companies from liability in exchange for a “new or current-production model” replacement. However, after receiving the replacement watch, G. discovered it was a discontinued model. He claims the settlement is voidable due to “misrepresentation and material non-disclosure,” adding that an agreed-upon strap was poorly made and that he was wrongfully asked to pay extra for buckle and bracelet links.
The plaintiff is seeking $80,000 in damages for negligence and breach of bailment, or a current-production Roger Dubuis watch of equivalent value at no additional cost.
