Grand Seiko scoops top prize at Red Dot Design Awards

Japanese luxury watch brand Grand Seiko has scooped the ‘Best of the Best’ prize in the Product Design category at the Red Dot Design Award 2026.

It claimed the top prize for its Evolution 9 Collection Spring Drive U.F.A. SLGB003, which is designed by Akira Yoshida.

The watch features a layered dial mimicking the frost-covered forests of Japan’s Kirigamine Highlands, while the exterior utilises Grand Seiko’s signature Zaratsu-polished and brushed surfaces to create an interplay of light and shadow.

The watch is powered by the new Spring Drive Caliber 9RB2, which features a completely smooth, sweeping seconds hand. 

The Red Dot Awards have been around since 1955 and receive 18,000 global entries annually across various fields and industries.
