Hat-trick of exclusive British Watchmakers’ Day watches for Fears

Fears Watch Company has unveiled the Brunswick 40 ‘1846 Edition’ exclusively for British Watchmakers’ Day.

The new watch, which has a slimmer case design and a two-part white lacquer dial, is inspired by the first pocket watch Edwin Fear made in 1846.

To reflect the anniversary of both this and Edwin Fear opening his first workshop in Bristol the same year, the 25-piece release features a bespoke 180th anniversary emblem alongside an individual number on the screw-down caseback.

It has an all-polished Brunswick 40 case machined from sterling silver, finished to a mirror shine, and the winding crown is set with a diamond.

A hand-finished multi-layer dial directly takes inspiration from Fear’s 1846 pocket watch, with enamel-style construction, Roman numerals, a large recessed sub-seconds dial, and blue spade-shaped hands.

Powered by the new Le Joux-Perret G121M manual-wind movement, this £4,350 release marks the third sterling-silver British Watchmakers’ Day exclusive from Fears.

Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, managing director of Fears, said: “Marking 180 years of Fears is a rare privilege, and entering our 10th anniversary year since Fears’ revival in 2016 makes it even more special.

“The Brunswick 40 ‘1846 Edition’ distils the clarity and purpose of Edwin Fear’s earliest work into a watch made for today. Creating it exclusively for British Watchmakers’ Day feels especially fitting, celebrating both our heritage and the vibrancy of British watchmaking in the present day.”
