Heuer Monaco worn by Steve McQueen comes to Sotheby’s
A Heuer Monaco worn by Steve McQueen in the 1971 film Le Mans is coming to auction at Sotheby’s New York.
The piece, alongside an archive of photographs from the set and other documents, will be up for auction on the 15 June 2026 during Sotheby’s Important Watches auction.
The timepiece, combined with the archive, is estimated to be sold for $500,000-$1,000,000.
A first look public exhibition will be held at RM Sotheby’s Monaco from the 24-25 April. This will be the first time the watch has appeared in the public eye in more than 50 years.
Seven examples of the Heuer Monaco with a blue dial were known to be present on the set of Le Mans. The piece most likely used in pre-production, with a stainless-steel bracelet, was sold by Sotheby’s New York in December 2024 for $1,440,000.
Of the six remaining pieces, the Monaco to be offered in June is reportedly the model that had the most time on McQueen’s wrist during filming, evident from the condition of the piece today.
“It is an honour for Sotheby’s to bring to market one of the most exceptional examples of any timepiece used in cinematic history,” stated Geoff Hess, Sotheby’s global head of watches.
“With continuous provenance and incredible documentation now emerging from the collection of one of the greatest watch and car enthusiasts in the U.S., we look forward to offering a fuller perspective on a story that has long fascinated and inspired collectors.”
