Hollywood actor seeks assistance from Seiko CEO
A rare vintage Seiko has taken centre stage during the filming of, and promotion for, blockbuster film, Marty Supreme.
Veteran actor Kevin O’Leary, a lifelong collector, was seen wearing the watch on the recent Golden Globes red carpet, having worn it during the filming process too.
Apparently O’Leary insisted on wearing an authentic watch for his role (the film is set in the 1950s), rather than relying on rented pieces or props. The story goes that he sourced a 50s Patek Philippe on the secondary market relatively easily, but found the Seiko much harder to track down.
So much harder, in fact, that he claims that he had to reach out directly to Seiko’s CEO in Tokyo for assistance.
Seiko’s in-house experts believe the watch to be a 1956 Seiko Marvel – the spirit of which can be seen today in the brand’s Presage collection.
