HSNY expands support for watchmaking students

The Horological Society of New York (HSNY) has announced its 2026 financial aid opportunities for watchmaking students.

The organization, which was founded in 1866 as the US’s first watchmaking guild, is today a nonprofit organization “dedicated to advancing the art and science of horology through education.”

Thanks to a donation from the Vogt Foundation, the HSNY’s scholarship fund has tripled for 2026, meaning that, for the first time, financial aid will be available to watchmaking students from around the world. Nine scholarships are available, with details of how to apply to each outlined on the HSNY website.

The society has also introduced a new Independent Watchmaker Grant, which supports emerging watchmakers who are developing original timepieces by providing funding for essential tools and startup expenses. The grant is designed to encourage innovation and craftsmanship at the highest level of horology.

Awards of up to $50,000 are available, and recipients will be selected based on criteria that include originality of concept, quality of finishing, and excellence in design, with emphasis placed on projects that explore complications and novel mechanical movements.

Scholarship and award applications are now open, with awards presented at the HSNY annual gala in March.
