Increase in top- and bottom-line outlook at eBay after stellar Q2

Online pre-owned platform eBay has released its financial results for the second quarter of the financial year, with revenue hitting $3.134 billion, a +15% increase year-on-year (YoY).

The US was a particularly strong performer during Q2, with sales up +25% YoY to $11.688 billion.

The company’s fledgling ‘eBay Live’ division— a real-time livestream shopping feature — recorded an outstanding quarter, with revenue growing by roughly eight times YoY across its seven markets. It attributed some of this success to its ability to align with key cultural moments, especially the FIFA World Cup, which took place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

“eBay’s second quarter delivered meaningful, broad-based momentum driven by continued innovation and focused execution against our strategic roadmap,” said eBay’s CEO, Jamie Iannone

“This quarter once again demonstrated our ability to focus on our strategic priorities while still delivering strong growth in operating income and EPS [earnings per share].

Peggy Alford, CFO, added: “Our second quarter results and continued GMV [gross merchandise volume] growth reflect our leadership in the categories that matter most to our buyers and sellers, while building an even stronger, more resilient eBay.

“Given the strong momentum we are seeing in our business, we are increasing our full-year top- and bottom-line outlook.”
