Joe DiMaggio’s legendary Patek up for sale at Wind Vintage

Wind Vintage is bringing Joe DiMaggio’s legendary 1947 Patek Philippe chronograph, reference 130 in yellow gold with Breguet numerals, to market.

Widely considered one of the most important sports-related watches ever produced, it ticks the boxes of high horology and the baseball hall of fame.

Produced in 1947 and sold in December 1948, the 33 mm 18k yellow gold watch features a tachymeter scale, rare spade hands, and a case crafted by Geneva master casemaker Emile Vichet.

Powered by the calibre 13-130, it is estimated that only 180 yellow gold reference 130s with Breguet numerals were ever made, with roughly 55 appearing publicly over the years.

The Yankees legend famously wore the watch during his retirement years, appearing with it at New York’s Stork Club in 1949. Since DiMaggio’s passing, the watch has had only two private owners, having previously sold through Hunt Auctions in 2006 and at Christie’s in 2017. It was also prominently displayed at the 2017 Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition in New York.
