Let there be light – Seiko goes solar with new chronograph

Seiko has unveiled a solar-powered chronograph inspired by 1980s-90s ‘Youngtimers’ sports cars.

The new Prospex Speedtimer ‘Youngtimer’ takes inspiration from Speedtimer models from the 1960s–70s, following those watches’ flowing form.

Modelled on the Seiko SSC813, the new timepiece features the Panda style design with black subdials complementing monochrome, pale pink, or mint green dial variations.

The watch is powered by the brand’s in-house V192 solar-charged movement, using both natural and artificial light.

Boasting a six-month power reserve, the £640 Prospex Speedtimer ‘Youngtimer’ is also water resistant to 100 metres.
