Louis Vuitton channels the spirit of ’88 with Monterey launches
Louis Vuitton has expanded its permanent collection with two new ceramic versions of the Louis Vuitton Monterey.
Inspired by the 1988 LV II watches designed in collaboration with Italian architect Gae Aulenti, the new 37 mm timepieces follow the model’s 2025 limited edition yellow gold revival.
The first option comes with a tone-on-tone green ceramic case and matching matte lacquer dial, accented with yellow lacquered hands that reference Louis Vuitton’s signature leather goods stitching.
The second option features glossy black ceramic against a matte white lacquer dial, contrasted with red hands, a blue seconds hand, and red-stitched black calf leather.
Moving away from the original quartz and date/alarm complications, the new models house the in-house automatic LFTMA01.02 calibre (with hours, minutes, and seconds) behind a closed caseback.
“The codes revisiting the spirit of the watch designed by Gae Aulenti are identical,” said Matthieu Hegi, artistic director at Louis Vuitton. “The railway minute and hourtrack, the Louis Vuitton Paris lettering forming the semi -circle, the visually powerful syringe hands, and of course the Clou de Paris crown at 12 o’clock, which here is crafted in steel .
“The watches revisit the codes of 1988, while remaining in step with its time–specially today as a versatile statement piece that can be worn in many ways, both on and off the wrist,” he continued.
