Manfredi Jewels owner sees the importance of family values

Manfredi Jewels in Connecticut is a jeweler like few others, with owner Roberto Chiappelloni’s faith in independent watch brands being second-to-none.

While its Greenwich store is the stuff of legend — it offers one of the biggest ranges of independent watch brands in America — in recent years it’s expanded to have a second store, this time in New Canaan, run by his daughter Bianca and stocking the likes of Rolex and Tudor.

During a forthcoming in-depth interview with Watch Insider, Chiappelloni said that, despite his success, he’s never lost sight of the importance of family and maintaining a work/life balance.

“I was always very much into the ability to mesh family life and being home at 5:30 at night and raising my wonderful daughter with my wife,” Chiappelloni said. 

“We open 10am to 5pm and typically half an hour later we’re home. Our staff is all together and they get off at the same hours.”

Chiappelloni hopes that this balanced approach is also one that his daughter embraces. “I don’t know what my daughter will do, but she seems to have the same view,” he said. “She wants a bunch of children, she has a wonderful ability to be a mother and a business owner, and the two can live very well together.”

More generally, Chiappelloni said that he has complete faith in his daughter’s ability to not only run the New Canaan store with complete autonomy. “She got a masters in international law, worked in a major law firm doing mergers and acquisitions and all that, and then made the decision to come into the family business so that she could have more of a family life, as she’s married and has a young child. 

“All of that gave me confidence in handing over to her as a managing partner and she purchased a percentage of the business and hopefully she’ll continue until she owns the whole store.”
