New space launch from Bulova sets the record straight

Bulova has launched a new limited edition Lunar Pilot ‘Black Hole,’ which pays homage to the 1971 Apollo 15 space mission.

This was the mission where Commander David Scott wore his personal Bulova chronograph on the moon after his NASA-issued timepiece broke.

After the event, NASA redacted Bulova’s name from public records to prevent the incident being exploited for commercial gain. This silence and re-writing of history is what the brand is referring to when it says ‘Black Hole.’

To match the deep space theme, Bulova utilized light-absorbing technology to create a completely matte, stealth look.

The 41 mm case features a sandblasted finish and black PVD plating, while the dial is coated in Musou Black paint, which absorbs 99.4% of light, contrasted by grey Super-LumiNova hands that glow blue.

Powered by Bulova’s proprietary NP20 High Precision Quartz (HPQ) 1/20th-second chronograph, the Lunar Pilot ‘Black Hole’ is limited to 6,000 pieces and is available from this month for $1,600 / £1,200.
