Oris hits Bullseye with comeback watch

Oris has announced the return of its Big Crown Pointer Date, bringing the historical design back as part of its permanent collection.

The new model is based on the brand’s 1938 Big Crown Pointer Date, originally designed for pilots.

Prioritising accessibility and legibility, the watch was defined by its oversized crown, large Arabic numerals, and unusual pointer date function.

Now, Oris revives the model with a new “Bullseye” iteration, taking inspiration from the two-tone, concentric dial design seen on its pocket watches in the 1910s. The last time Oris used the “Bullseye” configuration was in 1998.

In its latest form, the Big Crown Pointer Date “Bullseye” retains the oversized crown and large Arabic numerals, paired with a fluted bezel, domed sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating, and a transparent case back.

The 38mm stainless steel watch comes with a black Cervo Volante deer leather strap, and is powered by the Oris Calibre 754, which has a 41-hour reserve.

Commenting on the release, chairman Ulrich W. Herzog said: “The Big Crown Pointer Date embodies Oris’s independent spirit. This iteration taps into the zeitgeist and shows again why the Big Crown is a design for the ages.”
