Oris raises awareness of ALS with limited edition launch
Swiss watch brand Oris has honored baseball legend Lou Gehrig with the release of a limited edition Big Crown Pointer Date.
The Lou Gehrig Limited Edition aims to raise awareness and research into ALS [Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis], the disease that became known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Limited to 2,130 pieces, the watch pays tribute to the consecutive games streak that earned Gehrig the nickname ‘The Iron Horse.’
It features a vertically brushed silver dial, a blue-highlighted number four on the date track referencing Gehrig’s retired jersey number, and an engraved caseback bearing his likeness.
Powered by the automatic Oris Calibre 754-1, which offers a 41-hour power reserve and the brand’s signature pointer-date display, the watch comes with a brown leather strap inspired by vintage baseball gloves.
Retailing at $2,850, Oris says the launch supports the work of the Lou and Eleanor Gehrig Family Foundation, which funds ALS research.
