Police on the hunt for masked robbers at jeweler in Austin
The police are on the hunt for armed robbers who raided Marc Robinson Jewelers last week.
A masked group entered the retailer at Round Rock Premium Outlets in Austin, Texas, last Tuesday, April 21, shortly before 1pm.
Local news station KVUE said that video footage showed eight assailants, who went on to smash display cabinets with hammers and made off with “a large amount of stolen jewelry,” according to a Round Rock Police Department statement.
Speaking with the aforementioned KVUE, store owner Sherazad Lokhandwala said: “I’m sure they had scouted before. They already knew exactly which cases to go hit. They took in a lot of merchandise.
“We are the only store in Austin, Texas, that carries up to about 110 pre-owned Rolexes in stock. I would say about 50 or 60 of them were gone.”
The police statement said: “At approximately 12:47 p.m. that afternoon, officers responded to a robbery in progress at the mall’s Marc Robinson Jewelers. Store employees reported to police that multiple suspects entered the store carrying hammers and began breaking glass display cases and stealing jewelry. All the suspects were wearing masks and gloves. Suspects pepper-sprayed a store employee and a bystander during the robbery.
“Officers soon located the vehicle the suspects were described to have fled the area in, abandoned nearby at the 401 Teravista apartment complex. This vehicle, a blue Hyundai Sonata, was determined to have been stolen out of Humble, a Houston metro area city. The recovered vehicle was taken by police for processing, and the case remains active.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Dwayne Riley at (512) 218-6619.”
