Rolex ADs deny official discontinuation of ‘Pepsi’ GMT Master II

Ongoing speculation about the Rolex GMT-Master II ‘Pepsi’ watch officially being discontinued are still just rumours, for now.

With the watch going missing on Rolex ADs’ websites in the past few weeks, the consensus theory is that the watch is being put out to pasture, not least due to the chemical complexity of creating a single-piece, two-colour Cerachrom (ceramic) bezel.

Despite a fresh swirl of media misinformation about the famous model, Watch Insider spoke directly with multiple high profile authorised Rolex dealers at the weekend, who all confirmed that no official correspondence has been sent to them regarding the widely anticipated discontinuation.

Instead, they are expecting the formal denoument to take place at Watches & Wonders in Geneva in April.

On the (fairly safe) assumption that the blue and red GMT-Master II will take its final bow next month, the internet is already rife with speculation about what, if anything, may replace it in The Crown’s lineup. A red and black ‘Coke’ bezel was the original colourway for the very first GMT-Master II in 1983, and this is currently leading the runners and riders in the online rumourmill.
