Rolex and Cartier prices rise as ongoing goldrush bites
The ongoing pressure of rising gold prices has worked its way through the production chain and is now having an effect on the end consumer.
Rolex’s pure gold models have increased by around 5%, while its two-tone steel and gold models have risen in price by around 2.5%.
For instance, the Day-Date 40 Oyster, 40 mm, Everose gold ref. 228235, has gone up in price from $51,600 / £43,100 to $54,200 / £45,200 in June.
Also seeing prices increase in June was Cartier, but this appears to be part of a more general pricing strategy rather than related to precious metal price volatility. Its jewellery hasn’t been affected and prices across its watch collections went up, irrespective of materials used.
Its Tank Louis Cartier watch increased in price by about 7%, from $11,600 / £9,800 to $12,400 / £10,600. The brand’s jewellery timepieces — the Panthère and Baignoire — saw the highest increases, with the diamond-set mini and small models in yellow and rose gold rising 10%–18%.
