Rolex Datejust the star lot at this week’s Bonhams sale
Auction house Bonhams has a 153-lot live sale coming up in London this week, featuring star lots from the likes of Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Cartier.
Top of the rostrum of the 20 May auction is a Rolex Datejust, reference 6605, circa 1956, which was released just a decade after the Datejust’s inception. This particular reference — an 18K gold automatic calendar bracelet watch — was produced for just three years between 1956–1959.
Its rarity is reinforced by the dial, which has the depth rating printed below 12 o’clock, and has ‘Superlative Chronometer By Official Test’ printed on it, co-signed by Venezuelan retailer Serpico Y Laino. It’s estimated to sell for £10,000–15,000.
Another highlight of the forthcoming sale is a Cartier Panthère, circa 1990. With a pre-sale estimate of £10,000–15,000, this 22 mm, 18K gold diamond set quartz bracelet watch comes with a silver dial.
And an 18K white gold manual wind Patek Philippe Calatrava bracelet watch, reference 3468 5, circa 1970, comes with a sigma dial and is estimated to sell for £6,000–8,000.
