Studio Underd0g fully integrates assembly partner
Independent British watch brand Studio Underd0g has fully integrated its long-standing assembly partner, acquiring the workshop to form Underd0g Manufacture.
From now on, the brand says that every watch will be assembled in-house in the UK by its own team.
What this means in practical terms is that, rather than an assembly line, each watch is built start-to-finish by a single technician, who initials the final paperwork. This will help with maintaining standards and will also help promote British watchmaking, as they’ll no longer be outsourcing the work.
‘The D0ghouse’ is the name that the brand has given the assembly facility, which is describes as “an immersive environment” rather than just a workshop.
Fans of the brand can access The D0ghouse in West Berkshire to assemble a watch under expert guidance; see the daily technical process from the professionals themselves; and access the new 01SERIES Guava exclusively. where visitors can:
“Opening the doors to The D0ghouse feels like a really important moment for us,” said founder Richard Benc. “For years, the work that goes into assembling our watches has happened quietly, behind the scenes, by a small team who care deeply about doing things properly. Being able to invite people in, show them how their watches are made, and give the team the recognition they deserve is something I’m super excited about.”
Fans of Studio Underd0g can also attend British Watchmakers’ Day on March 7th, where the team will offer a “behind the bench” preview of the assembly process.
Benc recently spoke to Watch Insider about his philosophy with the brand from day one.
