Swiss government hopeful on new US tariff agreement
The Swiss government is hopeful that the USA will maintain the 15% tariff rate that was agreed as part of an initial deal in November last year.
Helene Budliger Artieda, head of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, was asked during an interview with Bloomberg whether she thought that the rate would be the same once the current universal 10% tariffs expire on July 24.
“If I would have to guess today, I would think there is a good chance,” she said, stressing that Swiss businesses are keen to establish terms that won’t fluctuate.
Negotiations between the countries are ongoing ahead of the aforementioned July 24 expiry date in a fortnight.
