Timex and Google partner on tech to help children tell the time

Timex has partnered with Google Cloud to launch Timex Tales, an interactive storytelling experience designed to help children learn how to read an analog clock.

Aimed at children aged five to 10, Tales uses Google Gemini to create personalized adventures that teach the basics of analog time-telling.

The activities include how to read hour and minute hands, understand AM and PM, and connect different times of day with daily routines.

According to research commissioned by Timex, two in five children aged six to nine struggle to confidently read an analog clock.

The system is powered by Gemini and built on Google Cloud Run, allowing stories to be generated and personalized in real time based on family input.

Each adventure also ends with a downloadable Analog Adventure Toolkit, including printable wristwatches and clocks with interactive hands for continued practice away from the screen.

Commenting on the partnership, Shari Fabiani, chief marketing officer at Timex Group, said: “As digital screens increasingly shape how children experience time, Timex Tales is our way of bringing the analog life back into everyday moments.

“By blending whimsical storytelling, hands-on learning, and purposeful technology, we’re helping families and classrooms make learning to tell time both accessible and joyful.”

While Paul Tepfenhart, director of global retail strategy & solutions at Google Cloud, added: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Timex on an experience that shows how generative AI can support family learning in a safe, intuitive, and meaningful way.

“With Google Gemini, Timex Tales helps children build an essential life skill and is a powerful example of how technology can strengthen, not replace, even the most analog traditions.”
