US law firm investigating Swatch Group and Richemont over tariff-driven price increases
A class action law firm in the US is investigating Swatch Group, Richemont, Hermes and Kering, among other major businesses, over tariff-driven price increases that were not retrospectively refunded.
Edelson Lechtzin LLP is looking into whether the consumers should have in fact received a refund after the Supreme Court struck down the tariffs.
The Philadelphia-based law firm’s investigation covers products sold under the luxury group’s brands during the period the tariffs were in effect.
It comes after the federal government imposed sweeping tariffs on imported goods in early 2025 under the purported authority of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
Many companies responded by raising the retail prices their customers paid, passing the tariff costs through to consumers.
However, after the Supreme Court struck down the tariffs, importers that had paid IEEPA duties became eligible to seek refunds of those duties from the federal government which forms the basis for Edelson Lechtzin LLP’s investigation.
Specifically, it is examining whether the luxury conglomerates raised prices to cover the tariffs, has not refunded or credited the tariff-related overcharges to its customers, and now stands to recover the same tariff payments from the government.
The debacle of last year is still having an impact today as US imports are expected to reach record highs ahead of potential tariff changes in August. Read the full Watch Insider story HERE:
